When we first introduced the Sunbrero SolarShield, we wanted to change the way people viewed facial UV protection for their horses. We are happy to report it is working and the SolarShield is now the flagship for Sunbrero with its full, hand-formed ‘NoseSkirt’.
Not only is the sunburn clearly visible on their pink skin, the problems caused by our exposure to the Sun on sensitive skin can reach much further adversaly affecting their behaviour.
Things like head tossing or pulling through the bit can result, as your horse tries to avoid the pain of sunburn. Pink skin around the mouth is common in Paint Horses as well as many Clydesdales and our Quarter Horses, as we breed them with more and more stunning face markings.
The unique NoseSkirt minimises respiratory infections due to inhaling water & dirt (and previously exhaled mucus) lodged in affected nose flaps covering the horses’ nostrils. This is especially the case with fabric nose extensions getting wet while drinking.
We raised the bar again with the ultimate in comfort and fit by offering 14 standard sizes as well as a custom styling option.
There are features like our soft, cotton feel poll strap, elasticised Velcro closure, the triple polar fleece browband padding and a super comfortable Sherpa noseband to name a few. Our masks are hand sewn by horse people that genuinely care about your horses comfort.
Should your horse be super sensitive, fighting facial cancer or in post-op we will customise a mask with extra protection or total shade for any area. Please contact us for this service.
Protection options range from 70% to 95% shade for the face area and up to 99% for the nose. Custom options are up to 99.99% shade.

Custom masks available
Please contact us for a handmade, custom designed mask to help alleviate your horses’ UV sensitivity. You may need a 99.9% eye shade or center face blaze strip or extra nose protection with our special double thickness 95% nose.
Magnetic Pastern Bands
Heavy duty pastern bands with double Velcro fasteners. Featuring up to 12,000 gauss per band for maximum penetration. Suitable to treat many ailments in both horse and human. Custom magnets rug inserts also available.
